"Moses my servant is dead; so now arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel." Joshua 1:2 New American Standard Bible
Good Morning Girlfriends:
For many years Joshua had been a loyal and faithful servant to Moses and God. When Moses had died, Joshua looked around realizing that all of the other followers, except for Caleb, has died in the wilderness over the course of forty years. It was now a new generation that was rising up and moving forward. Joshua had been put in leadership and was given Moses' mantle, to lead God's people into the promised land. The old things were fading and new doors were opening before them to the future.
The people that were left with Joshua wondered how and if, he would know what to do in order to lead them, they were used to Moses being the leader, and would Joshua have the ability to do so. They had seen Moses being used of God when they were delivered from the plagues of bondage, the parting of the Red Sea, the healing from the deadly snake bites, there was manna that God provided from the sky, water from the rock, taking a tree and making the bitter waters sweet, and how about talking to God at the burning bush, all the battles that were fought, as well as the giving of the Ten Commandments.
Would Joshua be able to fill those shoes, and what would be in store for him by following God. Moses had to bury his wife during his leadership as well as many other people and he lost the opportunity to take the people over into the promised land after wandering around for forty years with these people. Moses had paid a high price just leading them around the desert, what would lie ahead for Joshua?
Girlfriends, is that not the same thing we go through sometimes? When we know that we are being led to do something new, sometimes we may feel intimidated, scared or we even may think we are not good enough to do something new. The enemy may get us into a "fear mode" that keeps us stuck in our tracks to move forward to the new thing. Have we not looked back on our life at times and thought to ourselves that we wished we had done things differently or we had done more, and before you know it another year has passed and we are doing the same thing. We often restrict our decisions based on what we can do instead of believing in God's limitless power to help us to move into that new place.
Joshua probably thought, "where do I begin," God told him to do two things in order to start his new leadership position, he was to "arise and cross," that was it. That is what God is telling us to do as well girlfriends. For those of you that is being led into a new direction of a new job, a new relationship, a new address change, all God expects is to be willing to move forward and as you do, you are trusting God in His plan for your life. God will never lead you into a place where you should not be, no, He has only bigger and greater things in store, that will be higher than what we could ever think of. If Joshua had of stayed where he was and contemplated things over, he may not have made the move forward to where God was going to use him, and he and the Isrealites would have never seen the promise land, had he not obeyed. We cannot hesitate but have courage to make that step.
When Joshua took the step of faith and stepped over the river of Jordan, that is what it took for them to cross over in to Canaan land which was the land that flowed with milk and honey, a very full and satisfying place to be. What God was showing them was, that what He had done for them before, He would do it again to see them through and over each and every obstacle. Is that not what God does for us as well. There are always going to be be new battles, new obstacles to get in the way, but when we are being led by God, and when we keep our focus on Him, He will help us to get to where He wants us to be, Amen!
Let's Pray,
Father God, I thank you Lord that you do not give up on us. Lord , you have not given us a spirit of fear, but of love and a sound mind. Lord, help us your people to arise and move forward into what and where you are calling us to go. Lord we need your strength and guidance to get us there. Lord, I thank you that you send people along the way to help us in order to help make these things happen in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Be blessed sweet ones and pass the blessings on.
