Follow That Star

After they had heard the King, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star they were overjoyed. Matthew 2:9-10 NASB

Good Morning Girlfriends:

Not to put ideas in any little ones heads, not that it hasn't been already done a time or two, when my sister and I were young girls, we always had a cat for a pet and we loved to dress it up. Cuddling the kitty under one of our arms, while one of us would carry the doll clothes sneaking down to our parents bedroom to put on a show but not wanting to be seen by our parents. It was all just for a laugh, not to bring harm but as the doll sleeper went on the cat it would waddle back and forth around the room wondering what in the world was going on. Out came the flashlight, after taking of the little sleeper, the night show was always to follow. The lights went out and the flashlight was turned on as the cat would chase that light all around the room, up and over the bed, jumping up the walls and dresser trying to catch the light. Small things amused us I guess.

Friday night was usually when a few couples would get together to have a game or movie night, a little down time from a busy week. If it was one of the guys who had picked the movie, you could be guaranteed there was going to be a scene where you you hear, "Follow that car," as the chase would begin all throughout the city, in alley ways, through the city traffic as people were nearly run over as a garbage can would always go flying at some point, until they crashed or reached wherever the destination was. It's crazy but sometimes it could leave a person sitting on the edge of their seat.

Now the new thing is how many people are being followed on Instagram, Twitter and Tic Toc and how many likes can you get. Who's the newest singer, group or band to follow, a favorite actor, oh and don't forget your horoscope. There may not be any harm in following some of these things but not all of them has good intent.

When we look back at the story of when Jesus was to be born, there had been a prophecy that was given about seven hundred years prior to the big event, found in Micah 5:1-2, that the Messiah would be born in a town called Bethlehem. Herod, the king at that time, had called to speak to the Magi in secret, to find out the exact time the star had appeared. He had sent them to Bethlehem to find out where this baby was, and they were told to search carefully for him and that they were to report back to him when they found the baby. (Matt. 2:7-8) The king had told them he wanted to worship the new Messiah as well. It was the star that the Magi followed over the country side which led them right to where their destination was, baby Jesus the Messiah.

Girlfriends, as I ponder this thought, there are many people who have very good intentions who send us requests to like their page or to like this or that person so we can follow them, sometimes this can be a dangerous thing because we can get caught up in all of that and it can lead us to something else that might not be so good. You can be watching one video from a person that you follow and it might not be too bad and then the next video that comes up is quite the opposite, so right there we have a choice whether to continue to follow that person or not. Not everyone is on the up and up, it usually starts out very innocently to get you hooked and once you are you're in it, sometimes too far in, whatever it may be, whether certain music, smoking leads to other kinds of smoking, drinking, even pornography and witchcraft. Honestly, we have to be so careful what we watch, what books we read, what music we listen to, because there are hidden messages in a lot of it, and if you do not pick up on it, you can get in too deep.

There was a reason that Herod wanted the Magi to follow the star to find the baby and it was not so he too could worship him as the Messiah, it was to have him killed. He was using the wise men to do the work to find the one he was plotting against to have killed, the very one that was being born to later save the world. Not every one is who they say they are, they may have hidden agendas, that's where we need the discernment in order to tell the difference. When we get into the word of God and find out who He is and what His plans are for our lives as we follow Him to become more like Him, it will take us to be a better person. Not only will following God make us a better person but by following Him, it will lead us right to the place we want to be and that is heaven.

Precious Jesus, I thank you that You are and always have been that star that many men and women have followed for centuries. Lord I pray that you will shine brighter to this lost and dark world. Lord illuminate yourself to men and women in a brighter way than ever before and as we follow Your light we have the promise that when You return, we will be with you for eternity in heaven. I thank you Lord that you came to show us the way, and You are the way in the Mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
