Get A Little Closer

Good Morning Girlfriends:

A young teenage girl that I have known all of her life, has recently asked me the question, "How do I get to know God more?" You can imagine my surprise and excitement when she asked that question, wow that made my day. She already believes in God and knows that He is real, but she wanted to how she could get to know Him more. In a very simple way I explained to her, when she met her boyfriend, she would have spent a lot of time with him, talking with him to get to know him, and as she did she would begin to learn more about him in a deeper way, the things that he likes and dislikes, his favorite foods and where he likes to hang out, what he wants to do after he has graduated high school. She understood what I meant, so we began to talk about the things of God.

The first thing I think that I had said to her, was that I was very proud of her, because by asking the question that she did was one of her biggest steps. As we talked a few moments longer, I explained to her as I held the Bible in my hands, is that we read God's word and as we do throughout His word it paints a picture to us of who He is and how much He really loves us. Next I mentioned to her that praying to God is a big part of a relationship with Him , and just talking to Him like a person would if their friend was sitting right beside them. I shared with her that a person can listen to the word, listening to preachers who speak the word of God when you go to church or there are many online too. I shared that it is important as you find a community of like minded believers, you can get together with them to study the Bible deeper, as you are getting to know God. As I continued to share with her, I let her know that I have Christian music playing in my home almost everyday, that is how I get closer to God is in my worship. The last thing we talked about was being able to see God in our everyday lives, what we do, how we act and react to situations that come our way, looking at the things that are all around us.

Girlfriends, these are ways for every one of us to have a closer relationship with God. As each one of us grow to know God in a deeper way, we can also pray this for each and every one of our family members, that they too would come to know Him in a deeper way. God tells us in His word that when we ask it shall be given, when we seek we will find, and when we knock it will be opened up to us. (Matthew 7:7) The more we reach out to God, the more we read His word, more time that we spend time with Him, the closer we will know Him. As we spend more time getting to know God, when He speaks to us we will know His voice, as we follow in His footsteps. (John 19:27)

Spending time with God should not be a chore or boring, if we felt like that with our friends here on earth, I don't believe we would have a close friendship for very long, it's the same with God. God will always be there for you, but He doesn't just want a long distance relationship with us, He wants a close, deep, intimate relationship with us. So let's make a point of reading His word each day, talking to Him personally each day as we pray to Him. Turn the worship music on and worship Him by singing praises unto Him, we can even listen to scripture online as we are falling asleep, we are getting His word into us as we drift off to sleep. Find that close friend that you can pray with together as you lift one another and other up in your prayers. It says when two or more gather together agreeing on any one thing, God hears you and is there with you to answer your prayers. (Matthew 18:20)

Girlfriends, as we as individuals get closer to God, we can share Him with other people when an opportunity opens up like it did for me. Not only was I excited to talk about God and share about Him with this young girl, but it brought a greater joy to my heart because this was one of my grand daughters, and what a special moment to know that she wanted to know more about God and how to get to know Him better for herself. We always have to be prepared to share the love of God where ever we are, and as I explained to my grand daughter, it starts in the home, Amen.

Father God, I thank You that each one of us has the privilege to share the love of God to others who may not even know You yet. Lord I thank You for the opportunity to help other know you in a deeper way. Lord, I pray that as each opportunity that comes my way that You would continue to fill my mouth with Your word, and that is my prayer for each one who is here reading this that You would continue to fill each one and use each one to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with other so that they may be saved as well. I pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
