Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Colossians 3:9-10 ESV
Good Morning Girlfriends:
Everyone must have this old fable a time or two in your life time about the little boy who cried wolf, it is a little story with a big meaning. One day the boy was out in the field tending the flock of sheep when the boy cried out to the townspeople to come, that a wolf was attacking the sheep. Hearing the boys cry for help they came running out to investigate the situation, only to find that there was not a wolf to be found, so the townspeople went back to their homes. This same scene took place two times, where the boy cried out for help, the townspeople would come out running and there was not a wolf to be found. The third time that the boy cried out to the townspeople for help because there really was a wolf that had come to attack, no one had come to his rescue and the sheep and the boy had been eaten.
The boy had sounded the alarm one too many times and the townspeople caught on to his tricks and it ended up costing him and the sheep their own lives. Wow, what a revelation I just had...when there is any kind of a leader that is leading a flock of people or a group of people and they are not totally honest with the people, actually lying to the people they could be leading that group of people into some type of sin that the leader is into themselves.
Remember back in 2 Chronicles 12:1-8, where King Rehoboam was at the height of his popularity and power, he had abandoned the Lord, and the people followed him into this sin. As a result they were then attacked by king Shishak, and their city had been conquered. The boy and the sheep in that fable story, lost their lives because of what we would call "one little lie." I'm thinking that telling the lie was not worth it if it meant losing not only the boys life but every one of the sheep as well.
There are so many scriptures that we can share about how God feels about lying, He says it is a sin just like all of the others that are accounted in the Bible, no one sin is any greater than the other. Luke 8:17 tells us that there is nothing that is hidden from God, nor is there any secret that will not be brought to the light. What do we do with something that we know a lie is being told by someone but when that lie is exposed and people do not want to believe it? Remember the old saying, "Some people wouldn't know the truth if it bit them on the nose", or "It's easier to believe a lie than the truth." This is when we as believers in the Lord, that we need to have discernment for what is a lie and what is truth.
I am so thankful girlfriends, that the Lord does not work on the "three strikes and you're out" policy, God is quick to forgive when we are quick to repent. Going back to 2 Chron. 12:5, when the prophet Shemaiah came to Rehoboam and the Judean leaders telling them the words from the Lord, that because they had turned their back on the Lord so He had forsaken them and abandoned them. When they realized that they had sinned and done wrong in the eyes of the Lord they were quick to humble themselves and repent, they knew that the Lord was right in what had happened to to be the other army defeating them. God tells us in Exodus 20:16 that we should not bear false witness against our neighbors, we are not to tell lies about other people. When we are professing to live for the Lord, we do not want to tell lies, because in 1 John 2:4 it says that the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:9 reminds us and I'm so thankful that God has this scripture that tells us that if we mess up, and we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us from all unrighteousness, isn't that so reassuring that God doesn't work on the "Three strikes and you're out" system, Praise God! Just as Colossians 3:9-10 says that since we are living for the Lord, we have given up our old coat, our old ways, and now we are to practice our new ways that is pleasing to God, we are to obey His commandments, we are representing the King of Kings, so we want to wearing our best, speaking our best and acting our best to be a representative for Him. Matthew 7:15-20 says by their fruit you will know them, when we have discernment we will be able to tell whether a person is a true follower of Jesus, if their language and their actions are the same in the home and in public. Let's continue to practice holding our tongues from lying and that will also keep the peace, Amen?
Let's Pray,
Father God, I praise You for Your word, I thank You for Your word, that You have given us good guide lines to follow. Lord, help each and everyone of us to refrain from our old sinful nature, and to hold fast to Your words of truth that are written out before us. Lord, help us to cling to Your word with our life, so that we would not stray from truth. Help us Lord to bite our tongues from speaking lies, words that would bring harm to another person, Lord let our mouths be filled with words of truth, praise and words that would be edifying and pleasing to You almighty God, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
Be blessed and pass the blessings on as you share this message with others for the glory of our God.
