Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 NLT
Good Morning Girlfriends:
Sunday afternoon came, and my husband had to head back to the city where he was working for the week. The cooler was packed with snacks and meals for him to eat while he was away, clean clothes were folded and packed in his suitcase as we loaded up the van to go, but first, I had to follow him to the garage where he was leaving his truck to be worked on, and his father was going to come along in his car to pick me up, so my husband could use my van.
We had arrived at the garage ahead of my father-in-law, so my husband parked his truck in a place where the mechanics would see it for the next morning and dropped his keys in the drop off slot, then he jumped in the van as we waited for his father to come. We began to talk about what each of our plans were for the week, my husband had told me that the mechanic would be in touch with me, so I could pick the truck up when it was fixed. We were enjoying our last few minutes together before we had to part.
As we were talking, we began to think, it was taking his father a long time to meet us, it wouldn't have taken him that long, even though he did drive slow. My husband though he had better give his dad a call just to see where he was at. His father answered his cell phone, he had pulled off to the side of the road to answer, and when the question was asked, "where are you at," he kind of chuckled and said that he had taken the wrong turn off and he had to get turned around and he would be there to pick me up in a few minutes.
Minutes had went by, as we had begun talking again and enjoying our last few minutes together, we then looked at the time and we thought, too much time had went by and his father should have been there, where was he? Another phone call was made to find his location, because it was going to take my husband a few hours drive to get to the city and he needed to get settled in for the week. This time when his father answered his phone and told us where he was, he was further away than the first time we had called him, and he didn't sound right, so I had asked him if he wanted me to come and get him, and his shaky answer was, yes. I told him to wait right there and I would be there to get him in a few minutes, just to take the pressure off of him.
When my husband and I arrived at the Walmart parking lot, we exchanged our good byes, because he had to get on the highway and make tracks to make it before dark. As my father-in-law and I began talking about what had just happened, it was at that moment that I realized that he had got mixed up and couldn't remember what turn to take and he was driving in circles, so I knew there was more to it, this was when dementia was setting in, it was just another sign.
Girlfriends, this was a hard thing to swallow, as confirmation came later from several visits to specialists, that this was the diagnosis. I loved my father-in-law, he was a wonderful sweet, gentle, kindhearted man, We had many wonderful deep talks about the Lord, and that is who he is with today, enjoying life with no more memory loss, mixed up thoughts and confusion.
My father-in-law needed someone to come to his rescue because he just didn't know where he was or what to do, and maybe you have found yourself in this kind of a place, where you just don't know what to do or where to turn and you need a friend to help you out of that mess, that situation you have managed to get back into again. Maybe things look a little foggy and your head is spinning because you don't think there is any way out, you may be thinking, "How can I get out, get turned around." Well, I have come to town to tell you that, Jesus will come and meet you right where you are at, you do not have to do anything to get yourself cleaned up first, Jesus will come to you. You may be feeling like you are to yucky, that you have done too many horrible things, that you are not good enough, you have made too many mistakes, well guess what, Jesus is saying to you, "Well there you are, you are the one I've been looking for, let's sit and talk awhile, I can help you."
Jesus is not looking for anyone who is perfect and has never made any mistakes because there are none, He is not looking for anyone who has it all together, because each one of us still mess up from time to time, but he is looking for the ones are willing to come to Him just the way they are...confused, broken, mixed up, in a messy spot and looking for a way out. Jesus is asking, "Is that you?"
Let's Pray,
Father God, I thank you for this day and I thank you for You. Lord I thank you that when I was broken and tired of my life going the way it was, that you were right there for me when I called out to you, and my life has been such a better place to be, because You are in it with me. Lord I lift up that dear one that is hurting right now, that single mother who doesn't know if she can keep going the way she has been going, I lift up the one who sits alone in their despair of unforgiveness towards themselves. Lord I know that you have a better plan for each one, You have a plan for each of them to prosper and to have a better life. Lord, as we surrender our life totally to You, and ask you to to come into our heart and clean us up from the inside out, You will do just that. I speak to that single mother right now and I say to you that you are beautiful, you are good enough, Jesus loves you and you are just the one He has been looking for. I speak to the one who has unforgiveness in your heart towards yourself, I say let it go and forgive yourself because Jesus does not hold it against you and neither should you, let it go. To all the broken ones, Jesus is the great fixer upper, He is the one that is putting all your pieces back together in Jesus name. Jesus is helping each one of you to get turned around, with each step that you take in faith, He is meeting you there and He is meeting your every need in the Mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Be blessed sweet ones and pass the blessings on, Jesus loves you.
