To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24 English Standard Version
Good Morning Girlfriends:
After having babies our bodies tend to change, so clothes don't seem to fit us the same way they did before, but we hold onto them anyway hoping that they will. I know for me, I kept things hanging in my closet year after year because a certain top or pair of pant may have been one of my favorite pieces of clothing, but when I found out that I was moving, I found out real quick that there was no sense holding onto these things.
Many years ago, I had worked at a second hand shop and in order to keep the sales up, we were taught how to purge items off of the rack in order to hang new items of clothing out to be sold. Another lady and I would each have a rack of clothes, and we would have to remove several pieces of clothing off of the rack, not thinking about which ones they were, and we were given so many seconds to do it. There was a method to being taught this as it helped us to understand that if the same clothing stayed on the racks too long, people would not buy them, so they had to move on in order to put new clothing out.
Sometimes when we are cleaning out our closets, we tend to pull something out, look at it and go over in our mind, "do I really want to get rid of this," as it is hung back up in the closet. When I learned that I was moving I had to look at things in a different way, I had a conversation with myself, "do I want to take all of this stuff with me, do I want to pack all of this and drag it with me, I've been holding onto this way too long, and it doesn't fit me anyway," have you had conversations like that? I decided to pull each item of clothing out of my closet and give it a quick glance and decide whether I have worn it in a year, whether it still fit and I had made a pile to keep and a pile to get rid of. When I purged my closet that way, I could not believe the pile that was going to be going to a place to be given away, just by not taking the time to assess each item.
Girlfriends this is the same way with our spiritual lives, we need to purge some things and get rid of them, instead of holding onto them. When we give our hearts to Jesus and ask Him to come into our heart we have become a new creature in Jesus, we are not who we used to be, we are being formed more and more into the likeness of Jesus as we let Him work on us. As we purge the clothing from our closet, we have more room to hang new clothes up, it's the same with us spiritually as we purge out of our hearts closet but as we reflect on some things we will know if certain things that we do or the way we act looks like Jesus or not and which things have to go because they don't fit anymore since proclaiming Jesus as our Savior.
If there is anger hanging in your closet that you've been holding onto, it's got to go. If there is unforgiveness that you've been hanging onto towards a certain person, that has to go. If there is hurt that is in your closet that you have been holding onto because did you wrong, why not let that go too, these things are not doing you any good and they don't fit you any more because when you are living for the Lord, these things are not who He is, and that is who we are representing is Jesus when we give our life to Him. You know how you feel when you get rid of clothes out of your closet, you feel good to get rid of some things, you feel lighter in some way, well you will feel the same when you get rid of these things as well, you will feel much lighter, you will be free of all of the things that the enemy has been convincing you to hold onto, and that will be like you are giving him a black eye because you are not believing the lies any more. God's word says when we hear the truth and hold onto His truth, it will set us free. (John 8:30-31)
There is no other way to live but to live in freedom, and that is why Jesus came to this earth, not to condemn it but to save it, "Praise God!"
Let's Pray,
Father God, I lift up the name of Jesus. Lord, I thank you that you sent your son to set us free of the things that we have been holding onto. Lord, I lift up that one who has been holding onto hurt, anger, disappointment, unforgiveness, Lord give them the strength from within themselves to let You purge these things from them. Lord, let their hearts closet be filled with love, peace, joy in place of all of those old things. Lord, I pray that they will see You in a different light as well as other people, they will see them in a new light. Father God work on each of our hearts to become closer and closer to you as we allow you to fill us up with all of the good things that You have to offer in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Be blessed sweet ones and pass the blessings on.
